Portable Folio Productions seeks support
Portable Folio Productions is seeking support from the community.
The company, is a mobile group of thespians formed in 2015, focused on original works, classics, and Mega-Themed Repertory Theatre. We are committed to enriching the communities where we tour with transformative productions and works of art.
It is seeking $5,000 initial start-up capital to relaunch the company, and to underwrite their next production of Romeo & Juliet in Spring 2025, following a ‘pay-what-you-can’ / ‘admission-by-donation’ model for ticket pricing, to ensure that the performance art is available for all.
The company is seeking donations of $100 towards the next chapter of its artistic journey.
Don’t hesitate to contact Co-founder / Producing Artistic Director Alexander Trice (ahendertrice@gmail.com) for more details, and follow us on social media for updates to our productions. Thank-you!
A brief history of Portable Folio Productions (PFP):
2015. Originally founded as a Playwright’s group, and eventually a supportive Production Company for playwrights producing their original works for often their first time at new works festivals (such as at the Detroit Fringe Fest and BoxFest Detroit), PFP was co-founded by Director / Artist / Playwright Lylanne Musselman, and Actor / Designer / Director Alexander Trice in Hamtramck, MI. PFP was established with the prize money that Lylanne received by winning first place in BoxFest 2015, with her play ‘There’s Nothing Wrong with Me’, which Trice performed in, and Lylanne wrote and directed.
2016. Lynnanne relocated to the Indianapolis area to care for an aging parent, and she has continued to stay on as an active company member and advisor, albeit in distance. We hope to be able to tour to Indianapolis eventually, for Lylanne has remained a vibrant artist and writer in that community.
2017. Trice joined forces with Young Fenix Physical Theatre (YFX), and found a new home in Detroit’s historic Eastern Market district for PFP, as well a new mission; to not only support the work of young playwrights, but to also produce mega-themed repertory theatre. PFP began to shift focus to enriching our audiences and attracting patrons from other art-forms by utilizing modern theatre styles, such as avant-garde, Theatre of the absurd, Performance Art, and themed seasons, to tell classical and new stories.
2018. PFP co-produced with YFX, in repertory, King Lear by Shakespeare and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams, with the same cast and on the same set. Trice directed King Lear, and designed, produced and catered both productions. Patrons who paid full price for a ticket to one production, automatically received half off of the price of their ticket to see the other production, in order to boost ticket sales, which was a success.
2019. Trice temporarily re-establishes PFP at Grosse Pointe Woods Presbyterian Church, where PFP produced Shakesprear’s As You Like, with Trice again as director, designer, producer and caterer. The actors for all three of the PFP productions in 2018 and 2019 received a $10 stipend for each performance, as well as full catered craft services for each performance and rehearsal attended.
2020-2023. Covid-19 Pandemic, & Hiatus.
2024. PFP is relaunching post COVID-19 pandemic based in Pinkney, MI, with a unique charity linked to every future production, a ‘pay-what-you-can’ / ‘admission by donation’ model for future ticket pricing, and with plans to tour to future productions to Detroit, MI, Canton, MI, Ypsilanti, MI, Ann Arbor, MI, Pinkney, MI, Jackson, MI, Chicago, IL, Indianapolis, IN, and beyond!
