MOT opens season with Verdi’s La Traviata
DETROIT, September 19, 2024 – Detroit Opera will launch its 24/25 opera season on October 19 with Verdi’s La traviata, directed by Francesca Zambello and conducted by Roberto Kalb, Detroit Opera’s Music Director. The production will be Zambello’s first at Detroit Opera, and it will feature two rising singers making their Detroit Opera debuts: soprano Emily Pogorelc as Violetta Valéry and tenor Galeano Salas as Alfredo Germont. Joo Won Kang will perform the role of Giorgio Germont. Zambello’s staging has been performed as a co-production of Washington National Opera, Glimmerglass Festival, Indiana University, Seattle Opera, and Atlanta Opera. The cast will also feature all five of Detroit Opera’s Resident Artists—Brianna J. Robinson as Annina, Kendra Faith Beasley as Flora Bervoix, River Guard as Gastone, Cole Bellamy as Baron Douphol, and Cameron J. Rolling as Marquese d’Obigny—and Jonathan Lasch as Doctor Grenville. There will be three performances at the Detroit Opera House: October 19, 25, and 27.
