Tibbits brings the chilling musical thriller Sweeney Todd to the stage June 27-July 6

Tibbits will take theatergoers on a twisted journey into the dark world of Victorian London with its production of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd. This spine-tingling adventure promises to keep attendees on the edge of their seats.
 
Audiences will travel to the grim streets of 19th-century London, where the vengeful barber Sweeney Todd seeks retribution for past wrongs. Alongside his accomplice, Mrs. Lovett, Todd embarks on a chilling quest for revenge, fueled by a desire for justice and redemption. Director Mychelle Hopkins reflects,“In my experience, the line between love and pain rests on a razor’s edge.” As the plot unfolds, secrets are revealed, and the characters are forced to confront the consequences of their actions.
 
With its powerful score by Stephen Sondheim and compelling storyline, Sweeney Todd has earned critical acclaim and numerous awards, including multiple Tony Awards. From the haunting ballad “Johanna” to the darkly comedic “A Little Priest,” the musical’s iconic songs and unforgettable characters have left audiences spellbound for generations. Musical director Steve Zumbrun, echoes this sentiment, expressing his enthusiasm, “This is my fifth production of Sweeney Todd, and I have never once gotten tired of it.  Each time I do it I discover something new and wonderful about the score.”
 
The production boasts a stellar professional cast, including Paul Kerr as Sweeney Todd, Brenda Sparks as Mrs. Lovett, Emma Kops as Johanna, Jackson Poulin as Anthony Hope, Matthew Palmer as Toby/Tobias, Jose Emilio Escoto as Pirelli, Aidan Kelly as Beadle Bamford, Abby McDonough as Beggar Woman/Lucy, Tariq Woods as Jonas Fogg and Pat Cogan as Judge Turpin. The talented ensemble helping bring the story to life includes Aidan Eddy, Cade Ostermeyer, Lindsay Rosser, Michael Reed, Sarah Odom, Jessica Vanek, Brennan Wood, Isaiah Young, Alondra Schuck, Mika Umemura, and Daniel Jones. Sweeney Todd is choreographed by Riley Bannister with musical direction by Steve Zumbrun.
 
Behind the scenes, a skilled team ensures every aspect of the production is meticulously orchestrated. MJ Fox serves as Scenic Designer, Props Master, and Scenic Artist, while John Paul Scheidler coordinates fight scenes and violence. Jade Zhang designs costumes, Jamie Gresens manages lighting, and Sarah-Parker Martin and Jake McDivitt handle sound design. Josh Rockwell oversees technical direction, with Miranda Munson as Production Stage Manager and Elizabeth Kulaga as Assistant Stage Manager. Jacob Thompson and Samantha “Sam” Watson contribute their carpentry expertise, and Trey Ewart manages lighting as Master Electrician, all working together to deliver a flawless theatrical experience.
