Spinning Dot’s production of ‘The Kids from Amandla Street’ at Matrix March 14
DETROIT—“When theater for youth is done well it gives everyone in the audience something to walk away with. Spinning Dot Theatre Productions always do,” shared Amy Johnson, Matrix Theatre Company Director of Education.
Matrix Theatre Company presents The Kids from Amandla Street by Lereko Mfono, its second international children’s play in partnership with Ann Arbor-based Spinning Dot Theatre, Saturday, March 14, 11:30 am, at Matrix Theatre Company, 2730 Bagley in the heart of Detroit’s Mexicantown. The play, written for youth ages 8 and up, is immediately followed by a Performing Characters Workshop.
The Kids from Amandla Street by South African playwright Lereko Mfono brings to the stage the lively and prejudiced Amandla Street as seen through the eyes of four youth. These youth want to change the world, live their lives to the fullest, and dream of all they can become. This comes in stark contrast to the reality of racism, fear, and potential violence that surrounds them and threatens to steal their dreams.
Tickets, which include both the play and the workshop, are $15 each. Visit www.matrixtheatre.org, or call 313 967 0599 to order tickets or obtain further information.
