TRENTON—ComedySportz Detroit and Open Book Theatre in Trenton have announced a partnership to bring the ComedySportz brand of high energy, family friendly, improv comedy to The Open Book space in Trenton starting June 16.

“We’re excited to bring the national sensation like ComedySportz to Open Book,” said Krista Schafer Ewbank, Open Book’s artistic director. “My daughter went to see ComedySportz on her 8th grade trip to Washington DC.  She couldn’t stop talking about it. It’s fun and great for the whole family.”

In a ComedySportz match, two teams battle for laughs and points as they make up scenes, games and songs on the spot. A referee calls fouls and there is even a half time and plenty of opportunities for (willing) audience volunteers to participate in games and vote for the winners.

“Open Book Theatre is known for their excellent professional theatre productions which made them a natural partner for ComedySportz Detroit,” said Rachel Bellack, producer of ComedySportz Detroit.

The first ComedySportz match at Open Book Theatre will be Friday,  June 16 with matches to follow on Friday, July 14, Friday, August 18, and Friday, October 6, all at 7:30pm.
