FERNDALE, Mich.–“Agnes of God,” a pun on the “Agnus Dei” or “Lamb of God” prayer in the Roman Catholic Mass, was controversial when it took Broadway by storm in 1982, and it has continued to ruffle feathers in subsequence performances. We suspect, however, that anyone who sees this intelligent, insightful play, now being staged by Puzzle Piece Theatre, will recognize it as a fair, philosophically open exploration of issues that transcend mere denominational jurisdiction.
