Michigan Opera Theatre has never produced the dramatic opera “Macbeth,” which means that for many of us, this is the first and best chance to experience Verdi’s masterpiece. MOT’s vibrant production, conducted by Stephen Lord with Stage Direction by Bernard Uzan, invokes all of the fantastical elements of Shakespeare’s story to create a visually and vocally arresting production that crackles with supernatural electricity. While Shakespeare had only three Weird Sisters to prophesy Macbeth’s rise and fall, Verdi gives us a full coven of shrieking, scheming witches.
