In FREEP: Read John Monaghan’s review of “Cinderella”
How do you solve a problem like “Cinderella?” How do you freshen up a story this oft-produced, especially in light of Disney’s 1950 animated feature and its endless imitators?
The answer is onstage right now at the Detroit Opera House. The touring production of “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella” might be the biggest and happiest surprise of the local theater season. It’s an enchanting musical fantasy that employs a Broadway-caliber cast in service of an R&H score that has only improved with age.
