Michigan Opera Theatre has produced a handful of world premieres, lots of modern and contemporary American works and explored corners of the repertory that don’t see much action. But nothing the company has staged during its 45-year history has a backstory as unique as “The Passenger,” which opens Saturday at the Detroit Opera House.
