LANSING - In general, Encore Michigan doesn't include in its coverage productions staged by the state's college and university theater programs. But every now and then an event comes along that grabs our attention and merits your as well - and what's happening beginning this week on the campus of Lansing Community College certainly fits that description!

LCC Theatre is thrilled to welcome film and television actor Timothy Busfield back to the Lansing area to direct and appear with local favorite Carmen Decker in the dark comedy "Vigil" by Morris Panych.

Busfield, who graduated from East Lansing High School in 1975 and has appeared in numerous films such as "Field of Dreams," "Revenge of the Nerds," "Sneakers" and television series such as "West Wing" and "thirtysomething" (in his Emmy-winning role of Elliot), has appeared over 100 times in the play "Vigil" both on the East and West coasts. With a Heart of Student Success grant from the college, LCC Theatre is able to produce the play with Busfield and offer acting workshops to LCC students and rehearsal viewing opportunities during his time with the college.

"Vigil" is structured around what happens when an extremely self-centered and shallow person (played by Busfield) finds himself, through his own errors and inattentiveness, in a a life-and-death situation with profound and far-reaching consequences. Deliciously absurd, incredibly funny and poignantly tender.

The production teams Busfield with Lansing legend Carmen Decker, who earned a significant following during her years of stellar work on the stage of the BoarsHead Theatre among many others. In 2006, Decker won a Wilde Award for her performance in "Moonglow" co-produced by the BoarsHead and Performance Network Theatres.

Performances of "Vigil" are as follows:

Performances will take place in the LCC Black Box Theatre, Room 168 Gannon Building, located at 411 N. Grand Avenue in Downtown Lansing.

Tickets ($15 adults, $12 seniors 65+, $10 students) are on sale now through Arts Tickets Box Office at 517-372-0945 or www.lansingarts.org.
