One night only: Lily Tomlin comes to Wharton Center

Posted: Aug. 24, 2012 at 7:45 a.m.

EAST LANSING ― Detroit Native Lily Tomlin returns to Wharton Center for one show only Sunday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

Tomlin sold out Cobb Great Hall last time she was at Wharton Center in October 2006. Since then she continues to venture across an ever-widening range of media, starring in television, theater, motion pictures, animation and video. This November she returns to network TV with the new ABC sitcom "Malibu Country," which follows an aging country star (Reba McEntire) as she tries to resuscitate her career after leaving her cheating husband. Tomlin plays McEntire's free-spirited, medical marijuana-imbibing mom, who is focused on having fun.

Tomlin is no amateur when it comes to the stage. She was the first woman to appear solo in a Broadway show with her premiere of "Appearing Nitely" at the Biltmore Theatre in April 1977. The same month, she made the cover of Time magazine with the headline "America's New Queen of Comedy". Her solo show then toured the country and was made into a record album titled "On Stage." In 1985, Tomlin starred in another one-woman Broadway show, "The Search For Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe," written by her long-time life partner, writer/producer Jane Wagner. The show won her a Tony Award, and was made into a feature film in 1991.

Throughout her extraordinary career, Tomlin has received numerous awards, including six Emmys, two Tonys, two Drama Desk Awards and an Outer Critics Circle Award to name just a few. She also was elected as governor of the Television Academy's Performers Peer Group.

Join Lily Tomlin Sunday, September 16, for an unforgettable night of sidesplitting laughter!

Tickets are $28-$63.
